This week, I accomplished much more than I thought I was going to. I secured a place to where I was going to actually curate. I picked Pinterest. I felt that for my topic, this would be the most useful way to collect and organize my information, and I was for sure right. Not only was I able to pin websites and articles, but also great pictures and easy recipes that tie along with athletics and healthy eating.
The most interesting element that I found this week was a list of things to eat before, after and during a certain type of extraneous workout. I found that fruit juice, sugars and protein are good for after a short and fast run, and electrolytes are especially necessary after a long and evenly paced run. Although some of that information is something that I had previously learned, I found it interesting that I was able to pin in on my "Running" board, one of the several different categories I organized.
One challenge that is still pressing me is to find certain foods and recipes that are directly related to being beneficial for certain sports. I found foods and recipes that relate to different types of workouts but I was hoping to find information that was much more specific.
I know that I need to expand my research other than just looking at Pinterest. Since the website itself does not have that much depth, one of my next steps to finding specific information is using different search engines and trying multiple keys words in hopes of getting deeper into the curation.
The next step is to continue on the path that I have already started on. I feel like I am making a great start with my curation and if I keep finding a few elements every other day or so I can accomplish the goal of 25 elements easily.
The next is to simply enjoy working on the curation. I am curating something that I feel passionately about, so I should not be looking at this as a task but more of an activity, because the research I am finding can for sure benefit me as an athlete.
I think that this project is working greatly. I am able to look and find general information about my topic, then take that information and use it to find something deeper. I am also learning things about this that I never would have bothered to look up before, and it is helping me become a better athlete and also making me more excited to keep working on my curation.

Curation
I was immediataly excited to being this project because I knew that I would be working on something that interested me, which would provide for a better finished product. There is a lot of information on the internet about athletes, which helped me get a start on what I was hoping to accomplish. I chose not to pick any athlete in particular to focus on, but rather focus on information that any athlete can relate to, not someone famous.
Eating healthy and maintaing physical ability are two things that go hand in hand with each other, but eating healthy to find your maximum potential is not something that many people have ever thought about. Most people assume that to reach your maximum potential in sports you need to workout and practice every single day. Although this is true, your food source plays a huge role into how you play. I found serveral types of foods that provide long lasting energy which is a huge benefit for athletes, but some of these foods were either too heavy or too light which would cause other sorts of problems while working out.
The biggest struggle I am going to have to overcome is finding which foods would be the most beneficial for different types of athletes. There are certain things that a football player could eat, without lowering their game that a tennis player probably should not eat. Being able to differentiate what foods are good for certain athletes will be the most difficult part of my curation.

Metacognition: Mashup
I had no idea how to make things taken from all different places flow into one. I thought I would spend hours just searching for a few simple quotes or pictures and eventually throw something together that I thought was somewhat presentable. I do not like it when things are out of order, and for me, this assignment felt extremely unorganized.
Right when I put my first quote on paper, thats when everything just starting flowing. It was almost funny how difficult I thought it was going to be to fill 19 lines. I was surprised that I was able to complete the assignment but also enjoy it while I was working. It was cool to be able to take things that seem completely unrelated on the outside but find a deeper meaning for them.
I wish that I was able to get my mind to work harder towards the beginning of the assignment, so I could have made it better for myself. But nonetheless, I am proud of the final product.

Best Of The Week: TED presentations
I think one of the most insightful things we have done all year is getting the opportunity to learn about innovation and advancements in the world. All of the presenters who taught us about up and coming things in society really showed me how different our future is going to be.
Getting the chance to peek into the future and see what it has in store for us is huge. Being able to know all of this information whether we think we will use it or not gives us a leg up on other people who are not as informed. To be honest, at first I thought this assignment was going to be a drag. I hate getting in front of people and giving speeches. But now that I realize how useful all of this information will be for my future it makes it all worth while.

Mashup
Love:
beauty is in the eye of the beholder
the present transforms the future and reflects the past
1.
Believe in a love that is being stored up for you like an
inheritance, and have faith that in this love, there is a strength and a
blessing so large that you can travel as far as you with without having to step
outside it.
2.
I travel light and my bags are packed, just as long as I’m
where you’re at, I’m going to have a real good view. I’ll go anywhere, anywhere
with you.
3.
Wasn’t it extraordinary to be in the world right now,
wandering around in a wonderful adventure!
4.
Anywhere in the world there is beauty. If you look around
you, everything in nature is special and unique. Whether you realize it or not,
it is there and there is no way to get around it. Life is beautiful, all
aspects of it. Open your eyes and experience the joys of life through nature,
embrace and love the beauty of something so simple.
5.
6.
One sees lovers kissing in the shadows of buildings, in a
frozen embrace that will never let go. The loved one will never take his arms
from where they are now, will never give back the bracelet of memories, will
never journey afar from his love, will never place himself in danger or
self-sacrifice, will never fail to show his love, will never become jealous,
will never fall in love with someone else, will never lose the passion of this
instant of time.
7.
Only love can touch and hold them and be fair to them.
8.
We think of a love, but it is nothing like the love we have
yet to feel which is the same human love but on another level. The love of two
solitudes. People who understand the differences and beauties in the world, and
push their thoughts aside and love for the sake of loving. Love and solitude go
hand in hand. You can have one without having the other, but it will never feel
whole.
9.
Well you drive me crazy half the time; the other half I’m
only trying to let you know that what I feel is true, I’m only me when I’m with
you.
10.
It is hard for people to be alone. No one likes to go
through life feeling unloved. Some think that caring makes you weak, but loving
without restraint is what makes you strong. Being able to clear your mind and
focus on what is in front of you. Letting yourself go and slip into your own
mind to think about your love are two things that do not seem to go together.
Love and loneliness. But in reality they go hand in hand. You need to let
things go in order to realize your love for them.
11.
Life is harder when you truly love someone.
12.
13.
I believe that love remains so strong and intense in your memory because it was your first deep aloneness and the first inner work that you did on your life.
14.
When you are looking inside of your own memory, and things feel out of place, let them be. Things from the past can be motivation to change the future.
15.
But what is the past? Could it be, the firmness of the past is just illusion? Could the past be a kaleidoscope, a pattern of images that shift with each disturbance of a sudden breeze, a laugh, a thought? And if the shift is everywhere, how would we know?
16.
We create things differently in our brains than everyone else does. Everyone lives are different, therefore their visions of the past, present and future are different. Only you can decide what your future will be, what your past used to be and what today has in store for you. No one else can take that away from you, or know what you have planned next. The way you live your life today affects your life in the future. Live in a way that you believe will give you happiness for your future. Love like you will never see life again.
17.
When you see them, love life in a form that is not your own and be indulgent toward those who are growing old, who are afraid of aloneness and trust.
18.
This love will be returned to you thousands upon thousands of times, whatever your life maybe become--it will, I am sure, go through the whole fabric of your becoming.
19.
If you have love for what is humble and try very simply, as someone who serves, to win the confidence of what seems poor: then everything will become easier for you.

Blogging Around
In Maria's blog, she brought up a few really interesting points and arguments about how it is somewhat embarrassing that we take our phones, computers, ect. for granted.
Maria- the defintions you provided about texting disorders/conditions really surprised me but also made look at my life and how I completely rely on my forms of technology to make me feel connected to the world and to my friends. I always walk in the hallway looking at my phone and not thinking about how I could possibly walk right into something at any given moment. Maybe because I have gotten so good at it that I no longer need to. It is truly embarrassing to think that one of the most important things in my life is my smart phone, while, like you said, there are childern in third world countries who would do anything for a meal. This post really helped me to reevaluate my life and set my priorities straight.
In Elli's blog, she talked about how people are overusing technology in this society.
Elli- The fact that you still have a flip phone when all of your friends have iPhones is actually inspiring. With The way that technology has been advancing over the years, it almost shocks me that you not only deal with having a flip phone but also enjoy it. I agree with what you said about overusing technology, but I think that people really have no other choice. Phone companies ahave made technology for more than one purpose. There are now apps and music that you can download on your phone, where your phone can almost be like a computer. While in some senses people may see this as overusing technology or using it for the wrong reasons, I think that it is just an inevitable part of the evolution of technology in society.

Best Of The Week: Technology
I can not live without my iPhone. Without my phone, sometimes I get the feeling that I lost connection with the world. When we talked about how technology has evolved and is still evolving it made me realize how attached I have become to my technology and that it could not always be a good thing. Texting, e-mail and instant messaging has made our society so socially awkward it frightens me to think about how the future generations are going to interact with people, NOT over the computer. Will they even be able to hold a real conversation? Some people can't even do that right now, and technology is no where near where it could be in the next 15-20 years.
I think the creation of social media basically was a death sentence for human interaction. People feel so much more confident behind the security of a computer or cell phone screen, they are willing to push limits they never would dare go near in a real life situation.
Our class discussion really brought me to highlight the important things in life and while technology is definitely one of them, I hope I can find a way to change the way I use it.
